This is going to be an awesome overnighter. We will hit every twist and turn on our way down to Madras, followed by lunch at the Dockside Cafe. Then we are off to Shaniko, where we will stay overnight in the historic Shaniko Hotel. We are planning to have a ghost storyteller and/or possibly someone to tell us the history of Shaniko and how it became a ghost town. We will bring plenty of games to play, as this is really a ghost town and not much to do after the sun goes down. We will enjoy a family-style dinner at the hotel on Saturday night. Sunday we will get up, have a continental breakfast at the hotel, head to Fossil, then onto Condon, finding more twists and turns on our way to the Dirty Cowgirl in Wasco for lunch. Heading back the long way home, through Dufur and around Mt. Hood. The ride will officially end at Government Camp.
The overnighter for the Fossil/Shaniko Ride is scheduled for Saturday, September 16, returning home on Sunday, September 17th. The hotel in the ghost town of Shaniko is finally open and accepting reservations. If you are interested in going, please book your reservation as soon as possible as there are only 18 total rooms available. This is also right after hunting season starts so I’m not sure if we will be competing with the hunters, hence the reason for booking early. There is a restaurant in the lobby of the hotel so we will be able to have dinner/breakfast. I plan on bringing Mexican train dominoes, cards, etc. to keep us entertained in the evening since there will not a lot of other entertainment to be had. I am working on an awesome route that will take most of the day on Saturday with an easy ride home on Sunday. Hope to see you on a great ride. Valerie
